Supplement to Search Cases: By Citation
Inside Pages: Searching by Citation
If you have an official citation that is not pulling up the case you are looking for, you may have a citation to an interior or inside page. To pull up the case:
- From the Search Menu, click on By Citation under Search Cases and Codes from the Search Menu.
- Type the volume number in the box marked Vol.
- Type the page number in the Page box but for the last digit type an asterisk. This is the wildcard.
- Click on Find It!
For example, an opposing party cites to 100 Cal. App. 3d 229. Type 100 for volume. Select the 3rd series database. Type in 22* for the page number. This will search for pages 220 through 229 and will pull up every case that starts on a page within this range.
If your search does not yield results, you may need to increase the range of the wildcard to include the previous digit. For example, type 2* for the page number instead of 22*.
This will search for every number between 200 and 299 and will pull up every case that starts on a page within this range.
If you are still unable to find the case, try searching by Party Name, if you know one or both of the parties' names. Click on By Party Name under Search Cases and type in one or both parties' names. Or, please go to Search Inside Pages By Keyword Search on the Index. Please contact Customer Service at 1-877-JURISEARCH or 1-877-587-4732 for further assistance.
